Bachelor of Social Science

The Bachelor of Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary degree which aligns the academic and employment needs of students wishing to combine the vocational outcomes offered by the Faculties of Business and Economics and Information technology with the critical communications skills developed by Arts. This innovative social sciences degree will give students an enviable skills set in business, critical thinking and writing, multimedia and info tech geared towards the needs of contemporary organisations and workplaces.

Course outline

The Bachelor of Social Sciences degree will enable students to develop strong oral and written communication skills, learn about contemporary debate around global issues and development, and acquire acute critical analytical skills.Students will learn about international business studies skills and principles, the uses and potential of information technology in the workplace (including database management, uses of digital media, and website authoring), the thinking and skills of media and communications professionals (including how to professionally communicate ideas and outcomes in the contemporary and future workplace media) and issues associated with the globalization of business, culture and politics (including migration, business and personal ethics, urbanization and the role of international organizations in the contemporary world).

Students will be required to complete a major in one of the three faculties, with choice of specialisations in International Business Studies, Information Technology and Communication/International Studies. a minor area of study (in a different faculty to that which they are undertaking the major study sequence) and an additional 10 elective subjects that allow the choice of a second major. Career outlook

Graduates will have knowledge & skills across social sciences, business administration and public administration and be qualified to work in administrative positions in organisations such as the Commonwealth & State Public Services, statutory authorities, local government & universities

Course details

Three years full-time, six years part-time Berwick campus VCE prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. IB prerequisites: A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL.
