A Virtual Interactive of the Jock Marshall Reserve

Berwick School of IT/ Monash School of Bioscience
Coordinators/Advisors: (SBS) Ross Thompson, (BSIT) Tom Chandler
Research Assistants/Modellers/Animators: Janet Saw, Daniel Simmonds

Real data, virtual worlds. Monash University School of Biological Sciences is currently investing in creating a world-leading aquatic research facility in the Jock Marshall Scientific Reserve on its Clayton campus. 3D technologies are being used to create an interactive visualisation of the facility and link to real time data being uploaded from field sensors. An exciting extension of this concept will see high school students visiting the facility to set up experiments, then monitoring them (virtually) from their classroom. This project includes an interactive virtual walkthough of the Jock Marshall Reserve and a series of animations which visualise the passage of water flow through natural and artificial systems.
