Research at Berwick

Tourism Research Unit

The Tourism Research Unit (TRU) is centred at Berwick campus under the direction of Professor Betty Weiler, together with colleagues at the Gippsland, Clayton and Caulfield campuses. TRU’s mission is to be a highly competent and experienced team of researchers able to contribute to the knowledge base of tourism and meet the research needs of industry in the State of Victoria, nationally and internationally. TRU is already competitive with the best in the nation, and is positioning itself to be a world leader in the areas of tourism planning and management, interpretation in protected areas, and strategic communication. 

TRU has completed research, training and planning projects with a range of industry partners including Parks Victoria, Tourism Tasmania, Phillip Island National Park, Sovereign Hill Museums Association and Zoos Victoria. Monash University is also a member of the new Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC), which began a new seven-year program of research in July 2003. The STCRC is a $175 million research centre which funds collaborative research with its 15 university members and 30-plus industry partners. Its focus is on cutting edge innovations that support Australia’s competitive advantages in the tourism industry, including delivering new technologies, tools and models.
